Tools for Thinking: Design Questions as a Collaborative Planning Tool
Wednesday, October 11, 2023 from 3:00 P.M. - 4:00 P.M. ET

Though access and inclusion should be everyone’s responsibility and included at the beginning of every design process, it’s safe to say that things don’t often happen that way. In cultural institutions where overwork and understaffing seem to be the rule, these issues can be pervasive and damaging to morale, the culture, and most of all to the diverse communities they serve. This webinar will introduce design questions as one tool to help address these challenges – an invitation to participate in a problem-solving process, which can help to sidestep the thorny politics so common to cultural institutions and large organizations of every type.

Rachel Eve Ginsberg has spent the past decade moving between independent consultancy and full time work as a creative strategist and experience designer exploring the relationship between information systems, interaction design and sensemaking. Recently the founding director of the Interaction Lab at Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum, Rachel built an interdisciplinary, embedded R&D program focused on audience experience. Before that, Rachel led strategy and partnerships for the Columbia University School of the Arts’ Digital Storytelling Lab. Having returned to full-time consultancy in 2022, Rachel supports clients in a variety of sectors and academia on experiential, multiplatform initiatives in addition to ongoing work with the Smithsonian. As an artist, Rachel pursues projects across a range of media exploring self-discovery, catharsis, and compassion for self. Her work has been programmed at the New York Film Festival, Sundance Film Festival’s New Frontier, and International Documentary Festival Amsterdam’s (IDFA) DocLab.
