Surviving State Testing: Alternative Assessment & Arts Integration
Wednesday, March 25, 2026 from 3:00-4:00 p.m. ET
Federal law requires states to administer annual assessments to all students, including those with significant cognitive disabilities, to measure progress toward challenging academic content standards. While these assessments aim to gauge student proficiency and promote academic participation, they can present systemic barriers that impact students, teachers, and families. This session explores arts-integrated lesson planning aligned with state study guides and focuses on student engagement as a thoughtful approach to test preparation. Participants will learn planning strategies, see student work examples, and leave with practical ideas to center creativity and access in their assessment practices.
