Accessibility and Neurodiversity
Wednesday, February 08, 2023, 3:00 PM - 4:00 PM EST
Category: Webinars

Graphic of a keyboard, coffee cup, and notebook with the text: “Accessibility and Neurodiversity."

Sensory friendly and relaxed experiences are expanding across the globe. New and emerging ideas and practices are being discovered with each event and initiative. These discoveries emerge because organizations are using guiding principles rather than checklists, competency certificates or mandatory strategies. The latter approaches can be static, constraining, and not consider the diversity of the neurodiverse community across the lifespan. This session will introduce the underlying sensory and cognitive processing foundations that guide the principles and strategy choices for sensory friendly and relaxed programs.

Presenters: Ashley Grady, Senior Program Specialist, Smithsonian Institution; Ross Edelstein, PhD Student, Graduate Assistant, and Consultant, Indiana U, The Eppley Institute for Parks and Public Lands; Roger Ideishi, Professor, George Washington University.
