SPED Webinar Disability Theories in Music Education with Rachel Grimsby

Wednesday, September 27, 2023, 3:00 P.M - 4:00 P.M. ET

Disability studies is an academic field that examines the meaning and nature of disability. Specific disability theories, developed and practiced under the umbrella of disability studies, may focus on, but are not limited to, locations of disability, representation of disability, and disability advocacy. Understanding the many disability theories may provide educators a way to evaluate educational processes (e.g., IEPs, 504s, testing), curricula, and instructional practices to be more inclusive. Participants in this workshop will engage with theories of disability (e.g., Medical, Social, Interactional, Complex, Cultural, Critical) and their applications to music education.
