SPED Webinar: Crip Movement Lab - Centering Disability in the K-12 Classroom

Wednesday, March 13, 2024, from 3:00 P.M. - 4:00 P.M. ET

Created by disabled artists Kayla Hamilton and Elisabeth Motley, Crip Movement Lab is a critical pedagogical method for teaching dance accessibly and inclusively. This webinar will examine disability as a framework for creativity, prioritizing difference, and shifting the focus from ableist dance practices to inclusive and justice-based movement.

In this webinar, we will discuss:

  • Critical pedagogical methods and approaches for teaching dance accessibly and inclusively, as well as key terms for creating disability-focused classrooms in K-12.
  • Dance pedagogical approaches and practices which prioritize difference, interdependence, and collective experience.
  • The ways in which accessible and inclusive teaching can privilege the disabled body and intervene in the legacy of the white postmodern neutral body and Euro-American dance forms.

Presenters: Kayla Hamilton & Elisabeth Motley
Moderator: Debra Segal
